When the economy crashed in 2008, Lauren lost her job, and after struggling with mortgage payments, soon after she also lost her home.\u00a0 She and her adult daughter moved in with her mother \u2013 this was a good solution temporarily.\u00a0 Lauren and her daughter had a place to live and they could provide care to her aging mother.\u00a0 Unfortunately, shortly after they moved in, Lauren\u2019s mom passed away.\u00a0 Their hearts were broken from the loss of a loved one, and again they found themselves without a home.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: Justify;\">Lauren bounced around for a while, staying with friends and family, but ultimately ended up in a shelter in San Francisco. Lauren was broke, scared, and heart broken.\u00a0 She searched and searched for a job, but the job market left few options, none that offered enough for a deposit on rent. Outside of the shelter one morning some residents were talking about going to a drop in program with resources and referrals for people experiencing homelessness and they invited Lauren along.\u00a0 Lauren had never heard of <a href=\"http:\/\/projecthomelessconnect.org\/staging\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: normal !msorm;\"><strong>Project Homeless Connect <\/strong><\/span><\/a>but she was excited by what she was hearing so she tagged along for the day.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: Justify;\">Lauren came to <b>Project Homeless Connect\u2019s drop-in program, <\/b><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/projecthomelessconnect.org\/staging\/programs\/edc\/\">Every Day Connect<\/a>,<\/strong>\u00a0cautious but optimistic.\u00a0 Upon meeting with a Service Facilitator, Lauren was able to identify some of her most immediate needs that would improve her long term goals for employment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: Justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-35525 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/projecthomelessconnect.org\/staging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Denture-Block-008-1-216x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"216\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/projecthomelessconnect.org\/staging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Denture-Block-008-1-216x300.jpg 216w, https:\/\/projecthomelessconnect.org\/staging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Denture-Block-008-1-736x1024.jpg 736w, https:\/\/projecthomelessconnect.org\/staging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Denture-Block-008-1-768x1068.jpg 768w, https:\/\/projecthomelessconnect.org\/staging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Denture-Block-008-1.jpg 1070w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 216px) 100vw, 216px\" \/>Lauren was referred to the Denture Program, recognizing that her teeth and oral health had become a barrier.\u00a0 The team at PHC worked with University of the Pacific School of Dentistry to remove her infected teeth and fit her for new custom dentures.\u00a0Dentures gave Lauren back her beautiful smile! And that smile gave her back her health and confidence.
